We had planned to hike the Naches Peak loop but the trail still had solid snow cover. So, we followed the Pacific Crest trail north to Sheep lake, along which the snow was much patchier and less treacherous. The walk is relatively short and easy. There aren't any dramatic views unless you climb up above the lake, but the lake made a nice destination to get us out and into the woods. Part of the way up the trail we watched some mountain goats nibbling around and then laying down on a steep slope high above us. The wildlife was much more in-your-face at the lake where camp robbers (somewhat more officially: grey jays) did the rounds, inspecting the picnicers and their booty.
