2005 - CERN
Week 2
I meet Giulia and ? for a dinner at Pascale's new place. Sunday's snow hits hard enough that our only option that day is to walk to the bus in Meyrin.
Week 3
More snowfall, plus winds whip up some crazy ice sculptures along Lake Geneva. We take a trip to Lausanne and along they way check out the ice.
Week 5
Pascale smothers us with food, some us check out a jazz jam session hosted by GIN, and we hold a two-cake blowout in honor of Reid's birth.
Week 8
I attempted a carrot cake under adverse conditions, and I'm just thankful that no one got hurt. Pascale's bottled-up venom is unleashed against my baking, but simultaneously the cream cheese makes her dance like she has never danced before, she's a mania
Week 10
We say farewell to Giulia's friends and welcome two of Reid and John's friends from Seattle. Elena inspires us to visit a pub for St. Patty's Day. And on Saturday the sky over Geneva is filled with hot-air balloons.
Week 14
During the week Pascale dragged a few of us out to Geneva to watch a football game at one of the bars. I'm not a particular football fan, but I enjoy the company of friends and a trip into the city. The weekend brought a momentous occasion: Marco and Va
Week 16
I've been busy with work, presenting preliminary results of my simulation analysis in various meetings and such. John and Reid left for Amsterdam for much of the week. I enjoyed the unseasonably hot weekend weather by hiking up the Jura with Giulia and he
Week 17
A bunch of us visit the usual Brasserie, try on clothes much too small for us, and have a good enough time that well before I expect it's closing time.
Week 18
A barbeque at Giulia's in Thoiry, and later even more good eating at Giulia's home in Pisa, Italy.
Week19
It's potato week! Mash 'em, mince 'em, put them in a stew! Giulia's friend from university in Pisa visits.
Week 20
Pascale is better than a stack of a hundred tourist pamphlets. A friend from Lebanon shows up at CERN and she gives him and I a whirlwind tour of Geneva by night.
Week 21
Hanging out at Giulia's, evening walk in Geneva, the neighbor cat takes a nap on my bed, and James' arrives.
