Each section of the LHC has an incredible number of connections, most transport liquid helium for cooling and massive electricity in massive quantities to power superconducting electromagnets. The two capped tubes in the center carry the accelerated part

Kids enjoy the balloons I slaved over, fingers rubbed raw from tying-off, all afternoon. The little guy lost his moments later, but I quickly set him up with a shiny new one.
